Check Out our Picture Gallery!

If a picture says a thousand words then we must have volumes of books!  There are so many new images from our summer events, they all show how our Scouts have a great time learning and exploring, and it also shows that Scouting is more than just any extracurricular activity!

One very active month!

June 2012 was busy!

Look in our Gallery for pictures from all the below events, we only have so many, so please do share any pictures you may have from any of these events! E-mail them to pack711vt@gmail.com - thank you most kindly!

First, thank you to all the Scouts and Families that were able to attend the American Legion Post 59's Flag Day Ceremony! We had 21 Scouts present, and donated 234 worn, torn and tattered flags to be properly disposed of in the special ceremony. Every Scout that wanted to, was able to retire a flag in the fire - what a memorable event!

And from our Cubmaster's June Newsletter:

"Thank you to all the Scouts, families and leaders that helped plan, organize, and participate in this past week's Cub Scout events!

Thunder Road: We had 12 Scouts and 19 family members venture out to the Barre Speed Bowl to for an evening of Thunder Road Races. We had front row seats to a crash that flipped two vehicles - something that hadn't happened in seven years. Fortunately, there were no injuries to the drivers. What an exciting night!

Waterbury's "Not-Quite-Independence-Day" Parade: Our big top parade float was surrounded by 15 Scouts and 19 family members, proudly promoting Pack 711 to a huge crowd on main street. (I saw at least three more Scouts cheering us on from the crowd with their families.) The boys told me their favorite part was throwing candy to their friends. Everyone did a fantastic job decorating the float and dressing for the circus themed event. A special thank you to all the amazing volunteers who helped make this event such a success.
"

And, on the 27th, one of our Scouts was in the opening ceremony of the VT Mountaineers' baseball game carrying the Pack flag - cool!

By the way, if you're not familiar with what Thunder Road is about Nascar.com has a neat article from 2009 to read - even a non-enthusiast can appreciate this landmark's appeal and history!

Also, our Cubmaster mentioned a neat event that Scouts and their families may wish to enjoy in her newsletter:
(Upcoming) Stowe Hot Air Balloon Festival July 6th - 8th: If your family is looking for something unique and exciting to do next weekend, then head out to Stowe for their annual Hot Air Balloon Festival. The Festival will kick-off on Friday, July 6 at 4 p.m. with a twilight balloon launch at 6:30 p.m. The event will continue with sunrise launches at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, and Sunday, July 8, and a second twilight launch at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 7. Viewing the morning launches is complimentary for all visitors. Admission for the evening festival events is $10 (children 12 and under are admitted for free). A small fee applies for some children's activities.

Flag Day Retirement Ceremony

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States of America. This coming Thursday June 14th is Flag Day.

It is also the day that many organizations retire worn-out or old U.S. flags in a dignified manner.

Waterbury's American Legion Post 59 is conducting the ceremony for the proper retirement of U.S. flags that have flown their last at Rusty Parker Memorial Park on Wednesday June 13th at 5:30pm this year. (Cub Scouts need to be there at 5pm in full uniform!)

U.S. flags only; worn, faded, torn, or destroyed in the floods--or any and all of the listed reasons are asked for.

Waterbury's Cub Scout Pack 711 is helping the American Legion collect these U.S. flags from now to Wednesday June 13th.

For more information, or potential pick-ups, please leave a clear message at 802 244-7616.
Or e-mail us here at pack711vt@gmail.com
